A Trusted Pain Reliever For Generations
i have decided to work on Panadol.
Back in the late 19 century, quinine was scarce and it was used extensively by doctors to treat fever. This sparked the search for a synthetic substitute, which led to the discovery Panadol.
In the 1960s, Sterling Winthrop brought Panadol to Singapore (then part of Malaya). Initially, it was marketed solely through hospitals, where it received strong medical endorsement because of its excellent safety profile. This established Panadol's widespread acceptance among Singaporeans.
From its founding to today, it has remained the medication of choice for pain and fever relief and for both acute and chronic pain.
Indeed, Panadol is so much a part of our lives that Singaporeans use the brand name when referring to pain relievers in general.

I Feel that the products of panadol are not properly advertised as people tend to mix up Panadol Actifast and Panadol extra.
ReplyDeleteLooking at content of Panadol Extra and the normal ones, you can also see that the only difference is an additional of caffeine in Panadol extra, and I feel that they should educate people about the differences.
I agree with Gene especially now, where there are a wide range of products manufactured by Panadol. People tend to scratch their heads before purchasing the box of Panadol as they do not know the differences between one another and their effects.
ReplyDeletePanadol can actually create a list of the different types of Panadol and describe briefly and specifically what each is for.Place it near the products so that they have a better understanding on the effects of the type of Panadol.
Panadol, had almost become a household necessity in every house now i believed. like what beverley had wrote, Panadol, with its wide range of products, caters to all sorts of pain or cold relief.
ReplyDeletebeing that, there are people who tend to abuse the drugs when its so easily available everywhere on the market. i personally think that the public are not properly educated on the use of Panadol. even though instructions on dosage are given on the box, but there are still people who take extra, which results in poisoning due to the Tylenol (a poison in high dosages) content in it. beside Tylenol theres also codeine, that produce psychological or physical dependency, even taken in small dosages, but is not poisonous compared to Tylenol.
i think these are some of the things that the public needs to be educated on before taking the drug so as to know their limits and the possible effects that might happen if overdosed.
Apart from the drug abuse part which had been mentioned i think that Panadol is a brand that people always think of when they need some medications to relief pain. 'Panadol' always come to most people's mind when they are in pain rather than going to the doctors.
ReplyDeleteHence i think Panadol is still in a way successful.
I think that Panadol is wonderful because it comes in so many types & varieties for alot of common ailments, aches and pains. Plus, the fast relief is there, so its convenient (need not go and visit the doctor for medicine)
ReplyDelete(Referring to the above comments)It is already stated clearly on the box how much you can consume per day so the responsibility ultimately lies in the consumers hands.
I think that the word 'Panadol' has already replaced 'pain reliever/killer'.
ReplyDeleteWhen people are having headache or feeling unwell, you seldom see people asking, "hey, do you need a pain killer?". Most people will just say, "do you need a panadol?".
So, I guess these prove that Panadol has a strong branding.
I don't take panadol since I'm young. For what I know Panadol is toxic to the body, and it harms the liver.
ReplyDeleteAccording to the doctor, panadol will reside in the body for at least 5 years.
I suggested a solution when you're headache. Try on isotonic drink like 100plus mix it with drinking water. It works :)
Whenever you have a headache, you will think of Panadol. This is how Panadol actually succeed in branding itself with the situation that it helps to solve. Panadol have also produce other products such as Panadols for flu and Panadols extra for severe cases. In general, Panadol provides medications for commonly seen illness.
ReplyDeletePanadol is the cure to headache, fever and flu. There are painkiller that targets individual illness. Its a fast relief painkiller that is why it is so common that most people will just thought of panadol if feeling unwell.
ReplyDeletePanadol is a household name, with very few people not knowing what it is and what it does. It already equates to pain killer to most people (like mention above by some).
ReplyDeleteits convenience often leaves people reliant on it, taking it even when experiencing the slightest ailment.
It is still one of the inventions that allows the fast-paced society to live on without too much pain. :)
The fact that Panadol has came up with a variety of pills to suit different needs, e.g. headache, period pain, back pain etc, it goes to show how successful Panadol is as a company.
ReplyDeleteYes, the word 'pain killer' has been frequently replaced by Panadol. The thing is, is it really that effective? Or could it be due to their advertising/branding efforts such that consumers have the notion that Panadol=pain killer= the solution?
Nevertheless, Panadol indeniably has a strong branding.
Hmmm... Agree with Jiaqi there :]
ReplyDeleteMany people mistook pain killer as Panadol but the effects are actually, erm, sorry to say but not so well.
Well but the advertisements does leave an impact on people, leaving mums telling us to "EAT PANADOL ahhh, if u got headache!" Everyone knows about it! The advertisements & branding is insanely good & impactful.
Another thing I wanna point out is that their target audience have a really great range but they seemed to only target on a certain age range to do proper advertising & promoting (e.g. with promotions, flyers & advertisements to create awareness) & this restricts people's understanding of their products for other ranges like the Children's range.
Should the study of branding of Children's Panadol be included as well? :] 'Cos many parents still think that Panadols = Pain Killers = KEEP OUT OF REACH FROM CHILDREN (as stated on the boxes & all)
Well, just a suggestion there :]
Panadol is just one of the names of the brands of Paracetamol. Paracetamol is the actual drug in the small sachet of Panadol.
ReplyDeleteDid u know that there are other brands of the household brand "Panadol"
They are, Aceta, Actimin, Anacin-3, Apacet, Aspirin Free Anacin, Atasol, Banesin, Crocin, Dapa, Dolo, Datril Extra-Strength, DayQuil, Depon & Depon Maximum, Feverall, Few Drops, Fibi, Fibi plus, Genapap, Genebs, Lekadol, Liquiprin, Lupocet, Neopap, Ny-Quil, Oraphen-PD, Paralen, Phenaphen, Plicet, Redutemp, Snaplets-FR, Suppap, Tamen, Tapanol, Tempra, Tylenol, Valorin, Xcel.
And to think, we just know it as Panadol.
People tend to always take a pill of Panadol when they fee sick , instead of visiting a doctor. Because Panadol is a way of saving money and curing their illness. However people sometimes misuse it which leads to death.
